Description
Her home town of Neepawa plays a large part in this author’s work as she wrote at the height of her career, The Diviners and later the famous work The Stone Angel. These two books had an enormous impact of my personal life. My uncle Fern practiced this gift of divining in his community and it was viewed with respect and a degree of mysticism. Her lonely and childhood is played out in her characters who struggle in the fictional town of Manawaka mirroring so many small town stories in Canada. Her success as an author was due to her strong will to seek education to break from the narrow confines of career choices available to women in the 50’s. She struggled to find her way to make a living in the craft she loved so dearly through many obstacles. This work is a tribute to great women who set high goals for themselves. This work is an encaustic mixed media collage on wood, 12″ x 12″ X 3/4″.
